Bird Watching
The peak migratory season is January through March. Inquire at San Vito Bird Club about guided bird watching tours.
Wilson Botanical Garden and Research Center is a 30 minute walk from the house.
The world class Wilson Botanical Gardens is a wonderful place to explore, hike and bird watch. You may go to the Garden’s website for additional information.
Visit Panama!
We are real close to Panama! The hassle free border crossing at Rio Sireno makes a day trip or excursion to the Chirique province of Panama simple.
From the border, you can be in Volcan by taxi or bus in 1 hour over beautiful roads where you can visit Cerro Punta and the National Park. In Volcan, Jansen’s Coffee Plantation has interesting tours of the farm where you can see how coffee is produced and processed. They also have coffee for sale which we highly recommend.
For orchid lovers, there is a orchid research station, Finca Dracula about 45 minutes away from Volcan. We have completed the tour twice and were amazed at the variety of orchids.
Hiking Volcan Baru
Volcan Baru is the only place in Panama where you can see the Atlantic and the Pacific oceans at the same time. The best times to see both oceans is in the morning, hence, most people camp overnight.
Beach Playa Zancudo
Is a 2.5 hour taxi ride from our house or 30 minutes by boat taxi from Golfito.
Considered by many to be one of the best beaches in Costa Rica, Playa Zancudo is a gorgeous black sand beach located around 20 km south of Golfito in the Puntarenas province.
